Dr Katherine Dutton is a Rheumatology Consultant specialising in Adult Rheumatology at Kotara Specialist Suites. Dr Dutton has experience in the management of arthritis, autoimmune connective tissue disease, and soft-tissue and joint injections / aspirations for pain relief. Dr Dutton studied medicine at Monash University and was awarded honours for her academic achievements. She subsequently trained in Rheumatology throughout Australia and in the United Kingdom, at several centres of excellence, including Chapel Allerton Hospital (a Centre of European Excellence). Dr Dutton completed an international Fellowship in Lupus at the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (United Kingdom). During her Fellowship, Dr Dutton gained sub-specialist and UK-based experience in the research and management of patients with autoimmune connective tissue disease, and delivered subspecialist clinics in early arthritis, general rheumatology, biologics, connective tissue disease, scleroderma and spondyloarthritis. Dr Dutton also administered delivery of the Infusion Centre, Joint Injection and Giant Cell Arteritis services for the Leeds NHS Trust. Dr Dutton was awarded a Masters of Clinical Research by the University of Leeds through her work investigating a novel interferon biomarker in pre-clinical and established lupus and connective tissue disease. Dr Dutton presented her research at national and international conferences, including the Northern and Yorkshire Rheumatology Meeting and annual EULAR congress. In 2017, Dr Dutton was awarded the ARAQ Bryan Emmerson Award for her research in cancer screening in autoimmune myositis.

Outside of her work in Rheumatology, Dr Dutton works as a University lecturer and supervises medical students. 

In her clinics, Dr Dutton would typically see patients with:

• General rheumatology - simple and complex osteoarthritis, gout, pseudogout, chronic joint pain and patients requiring soft-tissue and joint injections

• Urgent rheumatology - including temporal arteritis / GCA

• Rheumatoid arthritis / inflammatory arthritis

• Spondyloarthritis - ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis

• Connective tissue disease - vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, sarcoidosis and sjögren's syndrome

In Dr Dutton’s clinical practice, she ensures all management plans are tailored to the personal needs and beliefs of each patient. When not at work, Dr Dutton enjoys spending quality time with her husband and young child.
